A "soft lockdown" was lifted about five hours after the shooting was reported not far from Phillipsburg High School.

A "soft lockdown" at two Phillipsburg schools has been lifted after a shooting nearby Friday morning.

Phillipsburg High School and alternative school planned to release students at 2:15 p.m., Superintendent George Chando said.

The schools had been under a shelter-in-place order preventing anyone from entering or leaving the schools as police investigated a shooting that took place about 8:15 a.m. in the first block of Rose Street.

Chando said the order was lifted at 1:30 p.m. and police were to have an increased presence at the schools as students leave.

There was one victim hurt in the Rose Street shooting, the Warren County prosecutor confirmed early Friday afternoon.
