The measure with 8 teachers' jobs on the line goes to the ballot box March 8.

For voters still with questions on Lopatcong Township's $600,000 school referendum, Thursday is the time to get them answered.

The district will be holding its fourth and final informational meeting 7 p.m. Thursday at the middle school, 321 Stonehenge Drive.

The measure goes to the ballot box on Tuesday.

The district is asking to raise an extra $600,000 in taxes to replenish financial reserves and stabilize the budget going forward. Officials have said a 200-plus percent increase in tuition since 2006 to send students to Phillipsburg High School led to a $300,000 deficit last year.

Staff cuts also loom if the referendum fails. Seven general and special-education positions, along with one music teacher and some programs, are tied to Tuesday's vote.

More information, including past presentations, is available on the district's website.

The district's elementary school and middle school serve 874 students, according to its website.

On Tuesday, kids will also be able to vote at township polling places, according to the district website. While adults weigh in on the referendum, students can pick a school T-shirt design.
