Themed days and celebrations at Belvidere High School highlight the importance of agriculture.

The Belvidere High School FFA recently celebrated National FFA Week, Feb. 20-27, with activities, themed days, displays and, of course, cake.

The focus was on spreading the word about FFA's goals as well as celebrating the hard work and community service that the FFA engages in.

The National FFA Week tradition began in 1947. Each year, FFA chapters all around the country work on developing agricultural and service projects that benefit the community, those in need and the environment.

The money raised through varying projects, including supervised agricultural experience programs, goes back into the community for many, many different causes including scholarships and charity work such as Trees for Troops, which provides holiday trees for service members and their families.

The Belvidere FFA chapter is in the process of raising money for Farmers Against Hunger, an organization started in 1996 as a way to enable farmers throughout New Jersey to contribute their extra produce to those in need.
