A forum is planned March 11 in Allamuchy Township.

The candidates for Warren County sheriff will be taking residents' questions next week.

A forum with the three Republicans who have launched campaigns is planned 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 11 at the Allamuchy Township fire hall, 284 Alphano Road.

The candidates announced their intentions within a few weeks of two-term Sheriff David Gallant's December announcement that he will not seek re-election. They are:

Charlie Makatura: A Belvidere councilman who, as a lieutenant with the New Jersey State Police, helped lead the information technology bureau in Trenton.

James McDonald: The recently retired Washington Township police chief from Hackettstown who has more than three decades of experience in law enforcement.

Jim Simonetti: A Frelinghuysen Township resident who serves as the chief of police in Roxbury Township, Morris County.

Sheriff's race quickly gets crowded

The forum is being hosted by the Warren County Republican Women group. Questions can be submitted ahead of time by emailing Nancy Brown at nancybrown0804@comcast.net.

The deadline to file a nomination for New Jersey's June 7 primary is April 4. The general election is Nov. 8.
