The New Jersey Department of Transportation reports all lanes temporarily closed following the late Thursday afternoon crash.

UPDATE: 2 dead in Interstate 80 accident in Warren County, police say

A crash late Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Warren County temporarily closed all lanes, the New Jersey Department of Transportation reports.

It was reported about 4:50 p.m. on I-80 East near mile-post 9.1 in Blairstown Township, west of Exit 12 (Route 521/Hope-Blairstown Road).

Three occupants were in a car that crashed in the center median, possibly into a tree, said Trooper Alina Spies, a New Jersey State Police spokeswoman.

Police were initially labeling the crash serious, Spies said. The agency's fatal and crime scene units were responding.

She could not immediately comment on the conditions of the occupants.

A medical helicopter was responding, requiring the closure of all lanes both east- and westbound beginning about 5:30 p.m., Spies said.

"Looks like east will remain closed for a while," she said about 5:45 p.m.

As of 6:07 p.m., the New Jersey Department of Transportation was reporting closures only affecting the left two lanes of I-80 East.

Fire and rescue crews were also summoned to the crash.
