Hackettstown police said shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, Dirk Cuesta entered Discount Tire, 141 Route 182, and pulled two Goodyear wiper blades off a display rack.

Cuesta allegedly removed the old wiper blades from his windshield and placed the new wiper blades, valued at $17.98, onto the vehicle. Police said he then put the old wiper blades back into the packaging and put the box back on the display shelf.

An employee of Discount Tire attempted to stop Cuesta and he got into his vehicle and drove off, according to police. Police stopped him in the 100 block of Main Street.

Cuesta is charged with theft and was released pending a court appearance, police said.
