Crash closes Route 517, cuts power in Hackettstown

A truck collided with a utility pole, police say.

Route 517 was closed in both directions Tuesday in Hackettstown after a crash involving a truck and a utility pole.

Town police announced the shutdown of about two blocks between Franklin Street and Miller Street about 11 a.m. on Facebook.

Police hoped to have one lane open by rush hour, Sgt. Darren Tynan said about midafternoon.

Rt517 is closed in both directions between Franklin St and Miller St due to a truck vs telephone pole crash.

One person was hospitalized, Tynan said. Further details about the crash will likely be released Wednesday morning.

Up to 200 people lost power after the crash, Tynan said. Jersey Central Power & Light as of 3:30 p.m. reported that up to 100 customers were still without power, estimating restoration by 9:30 p.m.
