The Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Warren County joins a national effort to bring awareness to sexual assault with events scheduled throughout April.
The Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Warren County is breaking the silence. The Washington-based agency has scheduled awareness events for Sexual Assault Awareness Mont across the county, all with the focus of bringing awareness to sexual assault and its prevention.
DASACC's feature SAAM event will be Take Back the Night, an evening full of survivor stories, speakers, music, food and activities. The event will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, April 20 on the quad at Centenary College in jmickley@dasacc.org.Hackettstown
The event is free and all community members are invited.
For more information, contact Erin Snyder at 908-453-4121, ext. 316, or at esnyder@dasacc.org.
For the second year, 100 signs displaying the stories of sexual assault survivors will be making the rounds throughout the county.
The "100 to 1" campaign will be displayed at Centenary College in Hackettstown the first week of April, Warren County Community College in Washington mid-month, and then will end at Shappell Park in Phillipsburg during the last week in April.
The display, first developed by the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NYSCASA), was created by collecting short stories from real survivors across New York. The stories show how few survivors choose to report their sexual assault to law enforcement and how even fewer cases are successfully prosecuted and result in incarceration for the perpetrator.
DASACC is running a contest to find the best public service announcement that brings awareness to sexual assault and its prevention.
The three categories are radio, video and social media.
Winners will be featured on Cablevision, WRNJ, and/or DASACC's website and social media.
All entries must be received by Friday, April 15. For more information, visit dasacc.org.
