A 4,000-acre brush fire Sunday continued to burn in Dingmans Ferry on Beaver Run Road in Pike County.

A brush fire spanning 4,000 acres in Pike County continued to burn Sunday with the next chance of a steady rainfall expected late Monday, according to a newspaper report.

The Pocono Record on Saturday had cited the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources with confirmation that a cabin on state land burned in the Sixteen Mile fire, which has been going since Wednesday in Pike and Monroe counties.

The fire is named for its starting point near Sixteen Mile Run east of Cresco, Pa. -- about 30 miles north of Easton. No injuries have been reported.

The Pocono Record reported Sunday fire officials were awaiting the next chance for a steady rainfall expected late Monday. The fire had consumed more than 4,000 acres as of late Saturday and other fires that started the same day have stretched resources, the paper says.

The fire was at 30 percent containment as of Saturday night, DCNR Forester Robert Martynowych stated in the report.

The Pocono fire comes about a year after an estimated 840 acres of the Blue Mountain burned at the border between Lehigh and Carbon counties.
