Hackettstown 1, Warren Hills 0 – Rapid Recap

Hackettstown softball team broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure a 1-0 home win over Warren Hills on Monday.

Turning point: After Blue Streaks pitcher Madey Smith held the Tigers without a hit through the first five innings, Hackettstown managed to scratch out a run in the sixth to secure the win. Senior shortstop Kayli Yeisley led off the sixth inning with a triple into right field and then junior first baseman Hunter Ruppel beat out an infield single to allow Yeisley to score the game's only run.

Top performers: Tigers junior pitcher Nicole Carter struck out eight and only allowed two hits in the game. Yeisley, Ruppel and sophomore third baseman Samantha Mandas each reached base twice for Hackettstown. Blue Streaks pitcher Madey Smith struck out nine and allowed only two hits.

What it means: Hackettstown improved to 10-7 on the season as the Tigers bounced back from an Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex tournament loss to Kittatinny on Saturday. Hackettstown plays at Lenape Valley on Wednesday. The Blue Streaks fall to 8-5 on the season and have their two-game winning streak end. They play at Montgomery on Tuesday.
