Bangor's Eric Hahn is one of 290 nationwide who qualify for the 2017 Grammy Music Educator Award.
Bangor Area High School Band Director Eric Hahn was announced as a quarterfinalist for the 2017 Grammy Music Educator Award, which recognizes current educators (kindergarten through college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education.
Hahn is one of only 290 music educators nationwide who have earned this distinction and one of only 16 in Pennsylvania.
He was previously honored as a quarterfinalist for this award in 2015.
Semifinalists will be announced in September.
Warren Hills teachers honored
Warren Hills Regional School District's 2015-16 New Jersey Governor's Educator of the Year and Educational Services Professional Award recipients will be recognized at a countywide luncheon at Hawk Pointe Golf Club in June.
Middle school science teacher Brigitte Burstein and high school social studies teacher Debra Rokosny were recognized as Educators of the Year; middle school librarian/media specialist Elizabeth McKeown and high school nurse Bonita Duryea were named as the Educational Services Professionals.
The GEOY and ESP Programs are part of a statewide initiative.
Burstein has been a science teacher at Warren Hills since 2007, and currently leads integrated science classes for seventh-grade students.
Social studies educator Rokosny was the GEOY Award Recipient at the high school level. She has been teaching at Warren Hills for 14 years, and currently advises the Human Rights Club.
High school nurse and Educational Support Professional award recipient Duryea has been a nurse for 22 years, and has been caring for the students and staff at Warren Hills since 1997. McKeown, ESP award recipient at the middle school, has been teaching at Warren Hills for over 30 years. She became the librarian and media support specialist this year, having previously taught English, reading and language arts.
Warren County art show winners announced
The Warren County Cultural & Heritage Commission announced the winners of the 12th annual Warren County Art Teachers & Students Art Show. The works were on display at the Hall Gallery of the Warren County Administration Building during March and April.
The first place prize of $300 went to Jason Horvath, art teacher at Phillipsburg High School. Jennifer Mazziotta Walter, art teacher at Harmony Elementary School, took second and art teacher Amanda Noll, of Warren Tech, won third place.
Honorable Mention awards went to Briana Mclaurin and Jennifer Wintermute, from Phillipsburg High School; and Meadow Cathers and Cassie Fox, from Harmony Elementary.
Additional participants included Chris Coyle, art teacher, from Belvidere High School. Students from Warren Tech included Naomi Gomez, Nathanael Morris and Elizabeth LaParch. Belvidere students included Gabby Caputo, Nicole Rosano and Patricia Woodworth. Also taking part were students Daniel Kull and Maggie Hickey from Harmony Elementary and Phillipsburg High Schools respectively.
ESU, Bucks Community College ink pact
East Stroudsburg University recently signed a dual admission agreement with Bucks County Community College.
Bucks County Community College students will be required to complete a dual admissions intent form with their application to ESU for consideration. Students must graduate from Bucks with an associates degree and a minimum grade point average of 2.0. A full-time student who has completed the appropriate associates degree program at Bucks County Community College may be able to complete a bachelor's degree at ESU within four regular semesters.
Centenary seeks theater intern applicants
The Centenary Stage Company, a professional Equity Regional Theatre in residence on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown, is announcing the 2016-17 internship position for the organization.
The CSC Internship offers qualified candidates the opportunity to serve as artistic interns for a season with the professional Centenary Stage Co., and offers a monthly stipend for candidates who are accepted into the program.
This CSC Internship will run from June, 2016 through June, 2017.
