Tour de Blairstown offers scenic vistas that will blow you away; promotes sustainable farming

Rolling hills, farmland vistas, the Appalachian Ridge, the Paulinskill Valley Rail Trail, and a town of proud heritage and robust rural flavor all come together in one tremendous cycling event on Saturday, August 6.

The 2016 Tour de Blairstown offers 25-, 40- or 62-mile routes through the iconic roads of beautiful Blairstown and surrounding Warren County to benefit the Foodshed Alliance.

Locals have always known that Blairstown, NJ, boasts some of the best cycling on the East Coast. Now they're ready to share it.

Following the ride, participants and those who've come to cheer them on will have the opportunity to shop at the Farmers' Market where they can purchase locally sourced products and food to take home.

Rider fee is $25, and includes continental breakfast, free parking, water and snacks at rest stops, and a Blairstown Farmers' Market bag, You may choose from any one of three routes when you register.

Proceeds benefit the Foodshed Alliance and its LocalShare program to support the local food economy and deliver farm-fresh food to those in need. Sponsors include Marty's Reliable Cycle, the Rotary Club, and GBBA.

All rides start and finish at the Blairstown Farmers' Market on Route 521/ Stillwater Road (next to Agway and Blairstown Fire Station-across from the Blairstown Elementary School.) Routes will be marked, cue sheets provided and here are rest stops along the way. Port-a-johns will be available at the start/finish line area and at the rest stops. Continental breakfast for registered riders will be set up at the start.

Check in for registered riders opens at 7:30 am and closes at 9:30 am.   The 62-mile ride leaves at 8:30 am and the 25-mile and 40-mile rides leave at 9:00 am. Riders 18 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Lunch may be purchased from local vendors at the Farmers' Market, including Lucca's Wood-Fired Pizza and Damn Good Chicken.

The Foodshed Alliance is an organization whose mission is connecting food, farms and the environment and to rebuild the local food economy. It is a grass-roots, 501c3 non-profit, devoted to promoting sustainable farming and locally grown, fresh, healthy food in Northern New Jersey.
