Phillipsburg police chief announces retirement

Chief James Faulborn said he'll retire effective Aug. 1.

Phillipsburg's police chief is retiring from the force.

Chief James Faulborn has been a member of the force since 1998 and has led it since Dec. 1, 2011. His retirement is effective Aug. 1.

"It's been very rewarding for me," the chief said Wednesday. "This governing body, mayor and council and other administrations I've worked under were very supportive of the the police department and that made my job a lot easier."

P'burg chief expands community policing

Faulborn said now is the right time to step away. He's looking forward to spending time with his family and pursuing some other employment opportunities.

The chief lives in Liberty Township. He expanded the department's community policing efforts in 2012.

He said Mayor Stephen Ellis is putting together an interim management plan while a new chief is sought.

Faulborn thanked Phillipsburg's council and residents for backing his department.

"l appreciate their help and the public's help and the support of the police throughout my career," Faulborn said.
