It remains unclear what led the driver to lose control along Brainards Road in Harmony Township.

A driver was injured Sunday morning after losing control of an SUV, crossing into the opposite lane and crashing into a cornfield in Harmony Township.

The crash occurred about 7:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Brainards Road -- about a mile north of Harmony Station Road. The driver was operating a Ford Explorer, which appeared to be covered in mud following the accident.

It remains unclear what led to the crash. A New Jersey State Police trooper in Washington was not immediately available Sunday morning to provide additional information.

The driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries, according to a witness account.

Also responding to the call were the Greenwich Rescue Squad, Harmony Fire Department and paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township.

State police at the Washington station are handling the investigation.
