UPDATE: How is aftermath of fire affecting business at Donaldson Farms?
Firefighters battled a stubborn blaze that tore through a barn Friday at Donaldson Farms in Mansfield Township.
Dozens of firefighters worked as folks from the surrounding residential neighborhood took pictures of a column of smoke that could be seen for miles, not far from the Hackettstown border.
The fire along Allen Road was reported about 5 p.m. Dozens of firefighters responded to the call.
No injuries had been reported by 6:30 p.m., said township Mayor Shirley Kocher, a volunteer with one of the township fire companies.
"We were told fertilizer and possibly propane" were in the barn, Kocher said at the scene.
"We want to be sure everybody, including the spectators, are safe," she said.
There was no immediate word on a cause for the fire.
Donaldson Farms is a local landmark that includes a store, greenhouse and nursery. Signs posted around the property advertise a corn maze set to open later this month.
