Officers became suspicious after finding the bikes, police said.

Packaging from cough medicine left beside two abandoned bicycles led Mansfield Township police to a pair of shoplifters.

At 3:41 a.m. July 31, officers initially found the bikes in the area of the Marshall's store in the Mansfield Commons Mall. Empty Coricidin packaging was on the ground near the bikes, police said.

Police asked Wal-Mart loss prevention to determine if any Coricidin was stolen from the department store.

Video surveillance footage showed two men later identified as Ronald D. Mulford III, 21, of Hackettstown, and Joseph T. Turdo, 20, of Belvidere, stealing Coricidin and Robitussen, as well as various energy drinks on July 3, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2.

Mulford and Turdo each are charged with three counts of shoplifting. Both were issued summons complaints, pending a court appearance.
