The bus was transporting students from Phillipsburg High School.
There was not much opportunity for the driver of a school bus to avoid a deadly crash Friday afternoon, investigators say.
The bus was heading south when a car driven by 85-year-old Betty Lou Marchant, of Avalon, N.J., pulled out in front of it, Warren County Prosecutor Richard Burke said Saturday.
Marchant was apparently exiting from Interstate 78 onto Route 173 in Greenwich Township about 2:35 p.m. She turned left at the stop sign to head toward Phillipsburg, in front of the bus carrying Phillipsburg High School students, the prosecutor said.
"The bus driver didn't have much opportunity to stop," Burke said.

Though the bus driver tried to avoid it, the bus hit Marchant's Honda Fit broadside and pushed it 100 feet or so, Burke said.
Marchant was pronounced dead at the scene. Some students and the bus driver were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Phillipsburg as a precaution but were not injured, the prosecutor said.
The bus is owned by Dalrymple Transportation. No charges are expected to be filed, the prosecutor said.
