The truck needed to be pulled free of the tunnel on Route 519 Lopatcong Township.

David Beaman usually hauls flowers on a flatbed.

On Monday, the truck driver from Easton, Pa., forgot he had a full tractor-trailer.

As a result, he his trailer was too tall to make it through a Lopatcong Township railroad tunnel and had to be pulled out with the help of cables and a winch, according to township police.

An officer at the scene said the truck was heading south on Route 519 at 11:11 a.m. Monday when it drove into the 10-foot 6-inch tunnel.

Police said the truck was hauling chrysanthemums from Harmony Township to a ShopRite warehouse in Newark.

It took about 45 minutes to an hour to pull the truck out backwards. Its top and back were peeled off in the process.

"They're actually still unloading the trailer right now," the officer said at 1:35 p.m.

Beaman is about 35 years old, police said.

Out-of-area truckers commonly misjudge the tunnel's height, the officer said.

"There are signs posted, but unfortunately it happens quite a bit," he said.
