New Jersey state Sen. Michael Doherty is sticking by Donald Trump, unlike Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno.
New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno's announcement she won't back fellow Republican Donald Trump for president isn't sitting well with a lawmaker from Warren County.
State Sen. Michael Doherty, a Republican whose 23rd Legislative District covers parts of Warren and Hunterdon counties, called Guadagno's stance "pitiful," reports PolitickerNJ's observer.com.
Breaking with Gov. Chris Christie, who has become a Trump supporter after a hard-fought primary contest, Guadagno told nj.com she's not going to vote Nov. 8 for Trump.
Nor is she voting for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, she said.
Guadagno came out Saturday against Trump in response to a question on Twitter about Trump's boasts in a 2005 video of being able to get away with groping women's genital's because he's a celebrity, nj.com reports. Trump issued an apology over the weekend.
@JasonAlt_dj No apology can excuse away Mr. Trump's reprehensible comments degrading women. We're raising my 3 boys to be better than that.

Doherty, last elected in 2013 to a four-year term, is unswayed in his support for Trump by the revelations from 2005 carried in media reports Friday night.
"Trump is leading the USA in a new direction on foreign policy," he said, according to observer.com.

Another Republican, House Speaker Paul Ryan, said Monday he will no longer defend or campaign for Trump, focusing instead on down-ballot races in a bid to maintain the GOP's majority in Congress, according to pennlive.com.
A day after Sunday night's caustic debate against Clinton, Trump appeared Monday night at a campaign rally in Wilkes-Barre, pennlive.com reports.
