The male patient also is accused of assaulting a nurse.
A patient violently assaulted a nurse and chewed through a blood pressure cuff while being treated at Hackettstown Medical Center, police said.
Michael Zartin, 21, of Mansfield Township, at 4:19 a.m. was being treated at the hospital's emergency department, 651 Route 604, when he became unruly, according to police.
Zartin allegedly started cursing and threatening hospital staff. He then punched a male nurse in the face, causing the nurse to seek medical treatment, according to police. Zartin also allegedly tried to escape by chewing through a blood pressure cuff.
Zartin is charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct. He was released, pending a court appearance.
