The abuse happened earlier than previously thought, the charges say.
A Phillipsburg man accused of sexually assaulting two children may have abused one of them earlier than previously thought.
Herman Quintana, 47, of the 700 block of South Main Street, was charged this week with sexual assault and debauching the morals of a child. He already faces two additional counts of each charge.
The earlier charges allege Quintana assaulted two children, now ages 10 and 7, between January and September of this year. The latest charges accuse him of assaulting the younger child in February 2015.
Quintana and the victims know each other, according to the charges filed in state Superior Court in Belvidere. The charges are all second-degree crimes, which each typically carry a potential sentence of five to 10 years in state prison.
He was arrested Sept. 16 and is being held in the Warren County jail in lieu of $75,000 bail on all charges.
