Voters descended on the polls in Warren County for Election Day 2016.

William Duffy's first thought as lines grew at New Jersey polling places probably differed from yours.

"I wish we had this every election," said Duffy, Warren County's election administrator.

Turnout was reported to be strong Tuesday, and lines at polling places were a testament through the first half of Election Day.

The presidential race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton dominated the top of the ticket. New Jersey voters also were set to elect representatives in the U.S. House and at the local level, with county, municipal and school board races on the ballot.

Election Day in N.J.: What you need to know

Duffy said turnout was good and problems were few, except for the wait times.

"Lines. ... We've got lines," he said with a laugh.

Duffy said he's always been surprised that more people turn out to vote for someone they can't reach on the phone -- the president -- but they don't show up when it comes to local races.

Officials said they expected a good showing throughout the day Tuesday. Polls opened in New Jersey at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

No matter how long the lines are at 8 o'clock, "as long as you're in line" by that time you'll get to vote, Duffy said.
