Blairstown Elementary School student comes up with the idea for a bench to help other kids feel like they belong.
As a result of Blairstown Elementary School Principal Bruce Leal's Random Acts of Kindness Program, sixth grader Ethan Henderson conceived and implemented the idea of a Friendship Bench.
The idea for the bench is to have children who are at recess sit on it if they are feeling left out and another child can come sit next to this new "buddy" and invite him/her to play.The idea is to make all children feel included.
Ethan's dad, Dan Henderson, and Mark Scialla, dad to BES students Adriana and Mark Scialla, donated the materials and labor for the Friendship Bench.
