After a rash of burglaries, Hackettstown police say to keep vehicles locked.

Hackettstown police are on the lookout for a man accused of burglarizing a car, and are asking for residents' help finding him.

The announcement comes the same day they warned residents of a rash of recent vehicle break-ins.

Richard J. Jarry, 36, on Monday entered a vehicle that was parked in the 400 block of Warren Street, town police said in a news release Wednesday. Jarry only got $2 in change but did swipe a checkbook from the center console, police said.

A warrant was issued Tuesday on burglary and theft charges, and Jarry's bail was set at $10,000. Police said he is homeless but is believed to stay in the Hackettstown area.

Jarry is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 pounds with brown eyes and graying black hair. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Hackettstown Police Department at 908-852-3300.

Earlier Wednesday, police alerted residents to a rash of burglaries after vehicles were broken into on Hurley Drive, Willow Grove Street and Cindy Terrace. Police said that there is no evidence at this point linking Jarry to those crimes.

Residents are being urged to lock their car doors and not to leave valuables in their vehicles.
