Driver charged with DUI in Route 519 rollover crash

The driver lost control of his BMW early Sunday and flipped along Route 519 in Harmony Township, police said.

A male driver was intoxicated early Sunday when he crashed a 2011 white BMW 128i along Route 519 in Harmony Township, New Jersey State Police said.

The man, who police did not name, at 4:35 a.m. left the roadway just north of Garrison Road. He then struck a berm and flipped over before the car came to rest in the middle of the roadway, police said.

The driver was then taken to St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill with a head injury, police said. Sergeant First Class Greg Williams said the driver is charged with DUI of alcohol.

Police shutdown Route 519 in both directions between Harmony Station Road and Marble Hill Road as officers investigated and crews worked to clear debris. Also closed was Route 519 between Harmony Station Road and Garrison Road.

The roadway was re-opened up around 5:50 a.m. Sunday.

Also responding was the Harmony Fire Dept/, Greenwich Township Rescue Squad, Washington Rescue Squad and paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township.

New Jersey State Police in Washington are handling the investigation.
