This year, WHRMS students explored this topic through an interactive program centered around music and relaxation called Rhythmic Relaxation, presented by Luis DeJesus, a music educator and founder of United Rhythms and Visions.

The program included two school-wide assemblies focused on respect, followed by smaller workshops that explored the theme further through musical instruments from around the world and meditation.

DeJesus kicked off the week's activities with an assembly, in which he and the students discussed personal respect, social respect and universal respect. They explored the ways in which respect influences education and the community. Later that week, DeJesus held 30 musical workshops for groups of 25-50 students, as well as a special after-school faculty workshop.

The program included storytelling through music, and every student had a chance to play an instrument from around the world.

DeJesus' vast collection includes bongos, djembes, tambours and the Chinese guzheng, a large plucked-string instrument, with over 2,500 years of history. Central to the program's theme was learning to respect other cultures.
