The fire was reported about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and smoke was still coming out of the building an hour later.
UPDATE: 1 killed in Belvidere apartment fire
Fire crews early Tuesday battled a blaze in an apartment connected to the China Inn restaurant on the 300 block of Water Street in Belvidere.
It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was hurt or what caused the fire.
The apartment is adjacent to the restaurant and there is significant damage to the rear of the building. A nearby laundromat was not damaged. It wasn't immediately clear if there was damage in the restaurant.
Smoke was still coming out of the rear of the apartment just before 8:30 a.m. The fire was reported about 7:30 a.m.
Fire crews from Goodwill, Belvidere, Washington Township, Mountain Lake and Harmony Township and EMS crews from Oxford Township and Belvidere responded. Warren County fire Marshal Joe Lake was on the scene.
