The crash occurred at about 8:45 a.m. April 3, 2017, along Route 31 south in Washington Borough.

Two Washington Township police officers and a college student were injured Monday when a police car collided with a van on Route 31.

The crash occurred about 8:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Route 31 south in front of a car wash in Washington Borough.

A male officer -- with another officer and a college intern as passengers -- was traveling north in the cruiser, which was a Ford Police Interceptor.

Michael Maurer, 53, of the Annandale section of Clinton Township, was driving a white Chevy van south along Route 31 when he attempted to make a left turn onto Perishing Avenue and into the path of the cruiser, police said.

The cruiser then struck the Chevy, according to police.

Both officers and the student were taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Phillipsburg for treatment of non life-threatening injuries, Lt. John Kaufmann said. Maurer was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation, Kaufmann said.

Route 31 was reduced to one lane in each direction.

Also responding to the call were Washington Rescue Squad, Washington Borough Fire Department, Oxford Rescue Squad and paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township.
