HACKETTSTOWN -- New Jersey-based Mars, best known for its candies like M&Ms, Snickers and Twix, has announced a $70 million plan to revamp its United States manufacturing operations.

About 250 new jobs will be added to the company's manufacturing network nationwide, according to a company press release.

The plans will also help expand the company's footprint in New Jersey.

A spokeswoman told NJ Advance Media in an email that the company has dozens of positions open across New Jersey.

"This investment will create new American jobs in communities across the country while also enabling us to offer more product innovation, choice and transparency to our consumers," Tracy Massey, president, Mars Chocolate North America said in the statement.

The company said it has already undergone $1 billion in U.S. manufacturing investments over the past five years, which helped create 1,000 American jobs across its brand portfolios, the company said.

In addition to candy, Mars produces pet foods including the Iams, Pedigree and Cesar brands, as well as Uncle Ben's and Masterfoods products.
