The 34-year-old driver had to be cut from the car, Washington Township police say.
A southbound black Lexus crossed into the northbound lane of Route 31 on Monday afternoon in Washington Township, Warren County, and crashed into a trash truck, police reported Tuesday morning.
Lexus driver Kristy Chermeski, 34, of Lebanon, had to be cut from the car by the Washington Emergency Squad and Washington Township Fire Department, township police Lt. John Kaufmann said in a news release. A crew and heavy rescue truck from Clinton Rescue Squad assisted in that effort, according to a report from the scene.
Chermeski was flown by NorthStar Aero Medical to Morristown Memorial Hospital, Kaufmann said.
Police did not provide Chermeski's medical condition.
The Premier garbage truck was driven by Keith Hoflund, 51, of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Kaufmann said. He was not reported injured.
Driver cut free, flown to hospital
The 400 block of Route 31 South was shut until 7:30 p.m. after the 4 p.m. crash, Kaufmann said. About 75 gallons of diesel fuel spilled, Warren County Hazardous Materials Team Chief Tom Nigro said Monday night.
The crash remains under investigation, Kaufmann said.
Police were assisted by the emergency squad, firefighters from the borough and the township, Clinton Rescue, Hunterdon Medical Center paramedics, Warren County hazmat and the New Jersey State Police traffic diversion unit.
