A flatbed truck lost part of its load of building materials Wednesday evening along Route 22 West in Phillipsburg, creating heavy traffic backups until it could be cleaned up.

It was reported about 5:50 p.m. on the median between the highway approaching the toll plaza and the South Main Street exit.

No one was reported injured, Phillipsburg police said.

The driver of the truck, belonging to Prosper, Texas-based Enssasy Trucking, told authorities he was cut off by another driver just prior to the incident, according to New Jersey Department of Transportation workers at the scene.

The material appeared to include granite countertops, which shattered upon falling from the truck. Other building materials remained secured to the trailer.

Police were continuing to investigate.

The cleanup fell to Stewartsville-based H&K Auto Body Repair, which brought in its heavy duty recovery truck, a CAT skid loader and other apparatus. LMR Disposal in Phillipsburg trucked in a Dumpster.

NJDOT closed all but one lane throughout most of the cleanup. The South Main Street exit and North Hillcrest Boulevard ramp to the South Main Street exit were closed, as well.

The incident was cleared about 8:40 p.m., according to NJDOT.
