The accused was last seen running toward Knowlton Township.
A man accused of assaulting an officer and then running away has been identified by the Blairstown Police Department.
Ryan Smithers (Courtesy photo) Police are searching for Ryan Smithers, 21, of Stroudsburg. Smithers on Monday evening fled a traffic stop on Union Brick Road in the township and was last seen on foot in the area of Alice Court and Kishpaugh Road heading toward Knowlton Township.
He was wearing a dark shirt and gray sweatpants.
Police did not say in a social media posting what led to the assault on the officer, but did say the officer is "doing OK." Captain Scott Johnsen, the officer in charge of the department, could not immediately be reached to provide further information.
A warrant has been obtained for Smithers' arrest.
Police are asking those with information on Smithers' whereabouts to call Blairstown Police at 908-362-8266. If anyone actually sees Smithers, they are asked to call 911.
