Both drivers were hospitalized after the accident in Mansfield Township.
A driver nodded off and crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 57, causing a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon, according to Mansfield Township police.
The accident happened about 5:15 p.m. near Penwell Road in the township.
Jordan K. Hammerstone, 34, of Glen Gardner, was heading west on Route 57 when his 1998 Ford Explorer crossed over the center line, hitting a 2000 Ford F250 pickup heading in the opposite direction and driven by Rudolph Walz IV, 49, of Phillipsburg, police Chief Michael Reilly said Wednesday morning.

Hammerstone was cut free of his vehicle and flown to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. Walz was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital in Phillipsburg. Their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
Hammerstone told police that he had fallen asleep, the chief said. Summonses are pending the investigation's completion.
The Tri-County, Mansfield, Mt. Bethel and Butler Park fire departments and Mansfield and Washington EMS assisted at the scene, police said.
