A new festival in Hackettstown will celebrate spring and suds.

The inaugural Maifest is scheduled for noon to 8 p.m. May 20 and will incorporate local microbreweries to help kick off "craft beer season," the Hackettstown Business Improvement District announced.

Maifest is a traditional German seasonal celebration. The event next weekend will start with a keg-tapping. Barrel-rolling and stein-holding contests will follow.

The festival will be held in the block between Washington and Main streets, at Grand Avenue and Valentine Street.

Tentative date set for P'burg pork roll fest

Czig Meister Brewing Co. and Man Skirt Brewing will host platzes where the activities will be held, and special brews will be on tap. Homebrew University and the North Jersey Homebrewers Organization of Practicing Zymurgists also will host their second annual homebrew competition.

There is no cost for admission and no age restrictions.
