Chris Creveling, a 2014 silver medalist, said he hoped to return to Olympic competition, a dream now on hold.
An Olympic speedskater with ties to Bucks and Hunterdon counties has been suspended from competition for four years after testing positive for a prohibited substance.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced the sanction Monday against 30-year-old Chris Creveling.
A 2005 graduate of Palisades High School in Bucks County, Creveling grew up in Nockamixon Township and previously trained at the Frenchtown Roller Rink owned by his family, including his father, Ross.
He earned a silver medal on the United States team in the 5,000-meter short-track speedskating relay during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Creveling now lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, and runs crevfit.com, a fitness training program.
He did not immediately respond Tuesday afternoon to a call and email seeking comment.
Monday's announcement by the USADA says he accepted the sanction for his violation.
Creveling tested positive for clomiphene as a result of an out-of-competition urine sample he provided on Oct. 18, 2016, the agency says.
Clomiphene is used to treat female infertility, USA Today said in reporting on the sanction; in men, the drug can alter testosterone levels.
It is part of the class of hormone and metabolic modulators, according to the USADA, and is "prohibited at all times under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing, the United States Olympic Committee National Anti-Doping Policies and the International Skating Union Anti-Doping Policy."
Lehigh Valley Athlete of the Year nominations sought
Creveling's four-period period of ineligibility began Nov. 18, 2016, when he accepted a provisional suspension, the USADA says.
"In addition, Creveling has been disqualified from all competitive results obtained on and subsequent to Oct. 18, 2016, the date his positive sample was collected, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes," the agency says in its announcement.
Creveling said during a celebratory visit to Palisades in May 2014 he planned to return to Olympic competition in 2018, at the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. The four-year sanction precludes him from doing so.
