The driver was uninjured but had to wait inside the truck until JCP&L could be sure the lines were no longer energized.

A series of utility poles toppled over Thursday afternoon in Mansfield Township, sending electrical wires onto a passing Warren County Department of Public Works dump truck, according to township police.

It was reported about 1:45 p.m. on Karrsville Road in the area of Jackson Valley Road.

No one was injured.

The road was expected to remain closed into Thursday evening to allow JCP&L to make necessary repairs, township police Sgt. James Hikade said.

As of about 4:30 p.m., the FirstEnergy company was reporting 101 people without power in Mansfield. Service was scheduled to be restored by about 6:30 p.m., according to the utility.

It appeared one of the poles was rotten and that it failed as the dump truck was passing by, according to police. Investigators did not believe the truck pulled the wires down, Hikade said.

The driver was the lone occupant in the truck and had to wait inside the cab until JCP&L could respond to ensure the lines were no longer energized, Hikade said.

The closure is between Jackson Valley Road and Rockport Road.

"It's still blocked," Hikade said shortly after 4:30 p.m. "The road's probably going to be closed for a while, at least until tonight."
