Veterans Day honors all those who served or are serving in the U.S. armed forces. Federal and state government offices are closed, as are many local offices.
Veterans Day is a federal holiday observed annually on Nov. 11, to honor those who have served in the U.S. armed forces.
It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect).
It's one of 11 annual federal holidays, which means a lot of people have the day off.
It is a state holiday in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. County offices, including Northampton, Lehigh, Warren and Hunterdon are closed.
Some local municipal offices are open, including Bethlehem and Allentown, while many others are closed. Those closed include: the city of Easton, Allen, Forks, Palmer and Williams townships in Northampton County; Alpha Borough, Phillipsburg, and the townships of Greenwich, Liberty, Independence, Mansfield, Pohatcong and Washington in Warren County.
