Memorial services have been set for John P. Ranallo, a 39-year-old father of two.
The man who died following a fight this week in White Township was a football fan, car enthusiast and loved being a dad, according to his obituary.
John P. Ranallo, 39, a township resident, succumbed to injuries while en route to a hospital Tuesday night following an altercation outside an apartment at 94 Route 46, authorities said.
Ranallo had gone to the apartment to pick up his daughter when he was called outside and a fight ensued, according to the Warren County Prosecutor's Office. He was knocked to the ground and hit repeatedly, authorities said. He was reportedly able to get up and go back inside, where he collapsed and never regained consciousness.
The man accused of fighting him, Steven Segarra, 37, of Mansfield Township, was arrested Wednesday at the Canadian border.
"He was a caring person and would help anyone," the obituary said of Ranallo, who had a son and daughter. "He loved being a father and treasured every moment spent with his children."
Visitation is set for 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Warren Hills Memorial Home, 234 W. Washington Ave. in the borough of Washington. A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
An investigation by the prosecutor and New Jersey State Police is ongoing, Warren County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael McDonald said Thursday.
Segarra is charged with one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and awaited extradition to New Jersey after being caught trying to cross the border in Lewiston, New York, just north of Niagara Falls, McDonald said.
Authorities said Segarra fled the scene of the fight with a woman, Charity Bucesy, who was also stopped at the border. McDonald said a second woman, who was not identified, may have been with them. Neither woman has been charged.
Segarra faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
