The storm is now expected to dump up to 30 inches of snow on the region, creating "extremely dangerous" travel conditions.
It may not come as a surprise for anyone who has looked out the window recently, but the Lehigh Valley region is now under a blizzard warning.
What may come as a surprise is the new possibility of up to 30 inches of snow.
The new round of blizzard warnings was issued shortly before 10 a.m. by the National Weather Service and extends from Reading to Morristown, with Lehigh, Northampton and Warren counties in between. The warning will be in effect until 3 a.m. Sunday.
Winds will gust up to 40 mph, causing drifts and whiteout conditions with snow expected to accumulate 22 to 30 inches, the weather service said in the warning.
Snow may fall between 2 and 4 inches an hour, with drifts up to 6 feet possible, the warning says.
"The combination of heavy snowfall and strong winds will produce whiteout conditions and extremely dangerous travel," the weather service said. Snow will cling to wires and trees, creating the potential for power outages.
