The Phillipsburg Fire Department had the fire under control in about 10 minutes, confining it to a stairwell, town fire Chief Rich Hay said.

Phillipsburg firefighters made quick work of an electrical fire Wednesday afternoon, but the family will be displaced until repairs can be made, the town fire chief said.

Firefighters were called about 3:15 p.m. to 90 Lewis St. after the occupants noticed smoke in a stairwell, fire Chief Rich Hay said.

Responders had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes, containing the fire to the stairwell where it originated, he said.

Hay, along with town police and Warren County fire Marshal Joe Lake investigated the fire and ruled it accidental due to an electrical fault, he said.

Power was cut to the home, and the American Red Cross is assisting the occupants until repairs can be made, according to Hay.
