The mobile drop box allows folks to dispose of their unwanted or expired prescription drugs at events throughout Warren County.
Warren County Sheriff officers Dirk Massaro and Dale Nauta along with Pat Koller, Washington Township Municipal Alliance coordinator, were on hand to collect unused or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal at the monthly meeting of Warren County AARP members.
A permanent Project Medicine Drop Box was installed in January 2013 at the Warren County Courthouse in Belvidere under the Sheriff's department.
Undersheriff William Lundon stated that in those three years they have collected and destroyed 820 pounds of old prescription medication.
All medication periodically is transported by the sheriff's department to Covanta Energy, in Oxford, where the drugs are destroyed.
In 2014, they recognized a need to go out in the communities and assist the people who could not drive to a collection site to drop off their old medication.
In July 2015 they received the PMD mobile container and since then have participated in various Warren County events with the collection of old medication similar to the monthly AARP meetings in Phillipsburg.
