Organizers have called off the annual carnival for Sunday in Phillipsburg due to unpleasant weather.

Food, rides, live music and games are what crowds enjoyed Saturday on the fourth day of the annual Sts. Philip and James School Carnival.

The carnival began Wednesday at the Phillipsburg Catholic school, 137 Roseberry St., was canceled Thursday due to rain and continued until Saturday. Weather didn't hold up for the carnival Sunday either.

"Thank you to everyone that supported our carnival. Unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating with us, and we will need to cancel the carnival for today," organizers sent out in a statement Sunday morning.

This year's carnival included kid-friendly rides, as well as the traditional Ferris wheel, teacups, carousel, slides and ring-of-fire. Guests also took chances on various games in hopes of winning stuffed animal prizes. A live band provided music.

Food items included the sweet and savory. There was traditional barbecue fare, Italian hot hoagies, beef and chicken on sticks, chicken fingers and funnel cake.

The event is the largest fundraiser for the school, said Principal Donna Kucinski.
