An estimated 200 people Sunday morning participated in the 16th annual race, hosted by the Musconetcong Watershed Association.
Sporadic and often heavy downpours Sunday morning didn't dampen the determination of an estimated 200 walkers and runners who participated in the annual 4.0-mile "Run for the River."
The 16th annual race, hosted by the Musconetcong Watershed Association, kicked off at 10 a.m. at the Asbury Fire Co., 410 Old Main St. in Asbury.
The course, which is mostly flat, meanders past streams, pastures and historic buildings. Those participating received water, bagels, orange wedges and a ticket for a post-run raffle.
Tethered balloon rides this year were canceled due to unpleasant weather.
The Run for the River is association's largest fundraiser of the year. Funds generated work to protect the river and its watershed through education and outreach programs to area schools, landowners and municipal officials. The nonprofit was formed by residents of the Musconetcong River Valley in 1991.
