The teen driver struck mailboxes and garbage cans before hitting a tree, Washington Township police said.

A teen driver is facing a possible drunken-driving charge following a high-speed crash Friday in Washington Township, Warren County, police said.

Kyle Dempski, 19, at 2:50 a.m. was westbound on Bowerstown Road at a high speed when the vehicle left the road and struck mailboxes, garbage cans and a tree, township police said.

Dempski suffered facial injuries and was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center. His condition was unknown by police Monday. A hospital spokeswoman said Dempski was not registered as a patient on Monday.

Police suspect Dempski was under the influence of alcohol during the crash. A search warrant has been obtained to determine Dempski's blood-alcohol level and results are pending, police said.

"We are waiting on blood results before charges are filed," Washington Township Police Lt. John Kaufmann said Monday.

Also responding to the scene were the Washington Township Fire Department and Washington Emergency Squad.

Dempski is the son of former township mayor and committeeman David Dempski. David Dempski didn't immediately return a voicemail for comment.
