Wednesday will be dry and comfortable

After a day that included periods of rain across New Jersey and thunderstorms with hail and strong winds in some areas, dry and sunny conditions are back on Wednesday.

Temperatures are in the 60s and low 70s across the state as of 7 a.m. and are expected to climb into the low 80s in many areas, the National Weather Service said. It's also expected to be less humid, making for pleasant conditions.

Shore areas such as Atlantic City, where it's 71 at 7 a.m., will make it into the mid 70s. The patchy fog in some spots will dissipate by 9 a.m as well.

The normal high on June 29 is 85 in Newark and 84 in Trenton, AccuWeather.com said.

Clear conditions will be widespread overnight with temperatures dipping into the low 60s.

The final day of June will also be nice -- forecasters are calling for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80s on Thursday.

Clouds roll in Thursday night and there's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms into Friday morning. There's a greater threat of wet weather during the afternoon on Friday as temps rise into the upper 80s.

The cold front should move offshore at night and set up what looks like a good weather weekend.

A line of thunderstorms that swept through the state Tuesday night brought torrential rain to parts of Hunterdon and Warren County, prompting flash-flood warnings.

The National Weather Service received reports of hail in Port Norris in Cumberland County, Jefferson Township in Morris County and Pleasant Valley in Warren County, ranging in size from a quarter-inch to 1 inch in diameter.

The weather service also received reports of lightning striking a house in Branchburg in Somerset County at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, and toppled trees in Bernardsville and Morristown, including one that fell onto Route 287.
