Campers in Warren County will present productions of the musical Friday night and Saturday.
Call it a musical boot camp.
Twenty campers ages nine to 15 over six days will prepare, rehearse and perform a musical at the Hope Conference and Renewal Center in Hope Township.
The camp began Monday and ends Saturday.
This year the campers will perform a production of "The Lion King Jr." under the direction of Sarah Hriniak, the drama club director at Nitschmann Middle School in Bethlehem during the school year.
Besides being focused on performance, the camp also emphasizes religion. The Hope Conference and Renewal Center, or Camp Hope, is owned and operated by the Eastern District of the Moravian Church.
Hriniak's father, Otto Dreydoppel, is a Moravian minister and the camp's chaplain. Dreydoppel said he is "trying to get kids to make connections between the Lion King story and Bible stories."
The performances are open to the public. They are $3 per person and will be given at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the camp at 15 Ridgeway Avenue in Hope, near Blairstown.
Besides the musical theater camp, the center is also hosting a swim camp this week with 27 participants.
