The hunt for Pokemon led a player in New Jersey to an unexpected prize -- $2,000 in cash.
Police in Hackettstown said the money was found Wednesday along Main Street by someone playing Pokemon Go, a popular app that has users out in the real world catching cartoon monsters.
The cash was reported missing Wednesday afternoon, police said. The player apparently found it at a PokeStop, a location that yields helpful in-game items.
Police said the player went to a nearby business, told them he found the money and that he would turn it in to authorities. An officer found him on the way and collected the cash, which was returned to the owner.
Hackettstown police, like others, have cautioned Pokemon Go users to be aware of their surroundings:
