Tractor Pulls at Hunterdon County 4-H Fair

Both tractor and truck pull contests were held at the Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair. While many Hunterdon residents took part, Warren County farmers won just about all the classes.

Both tractor and truck pull contests were held at the Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair. While many Hunterdon residents took part, Warren County farmers won just about all the classes.

The machines are hooked up to a weight transfer sled. The further the tractor or truck makes it down the clay-covered track, the more weight on the transfer sled moves ahead, making it harder to pull. Finally the puller comes to a stop, usually with the tires spinning.

A total of 107 farm tractors participated in the day-time contest. Following is a listing of the winners in each class:

• 4,500 pound - Kyle Grandin of Blairstown on a 1958 Oliver 770
• 4,500 pound open - Stuart Kise of Blairstown on a 1959 Farmall 460
• 5,500 pound - Jacob Bilyk of Belvidere on a 1960 International 560
• 6,500 pound open - Jake Bilyk Jr. of Belvidere on a 1974 IH 666
• 7,500 pound - Matthew Baley of Columbia on a 1972 Ford 7000
• 9,500 pound non-turbo engine - Tom Newport of Blairstown on a 1963 John Deere 4010
• 9,500 pound turbo - Matt Santini of Phillipsburg on a 1970 Case 970
• 9,500 pound hot stock - Michael Menegus of Belvidere on a 1976 John Deere 4430
• 11,500 pound - Robert Santini of Stewartsville on a 1978 Case 1175
• 11,500 pound open - Katrina Schubert of Oxford on a 1978 John Deere 4440
• 13,500 pound - Jeff Barlieb of Stewartsville on a Case 1175
• 15,500 pound - Robert Santini of Phillipsburg on a 1978 Case 1570

As part of the evening show, a four-wheel-drive truck class took the track. It had a total of trucks.

The winner was Louis Sloboda of White Township, driving his 2008 Ford F250. He pulled 320.46 feet.

Second place went to Alec Roberts of Pittstown. His 2005 GMC 2500HD pulled 315.34 feet.

Third went to Tyler Golis of Flemington, in a 2008 Ford F-350 which went 312.64 feet.

There were 89 pulls in the evening tractor contest. The winners are:
• 4,500 pound class - Kyle Grandin of Blairstown on a 1958 Oliver 770
