A veterinarian responded to the scene in Allamuchy Township.
A pickup truck driver struck and seriously injured a horse Tuesday morning along Shades of Death Road in Allamuchy Township.
The 41-year-old driver from New Jersey at 5:35 a.m. was near Gibbs Road when he came around a bend and didn't see the horse in the road, New Jersey State Police in Hope said.
The horse is believed to have escaped from a nearby farm or pasture.
The horse was in the middle of the road when it was hit by the Ford F-150 pickup, according to police. The horse was seriously injured; a veterinarian responded to the accident and later determined the horse needed to be euthanized.
The driver was not injured or cited. Police cleared the scene by 6:30 a.m.
