I-80 lane closed after trash truck dumps load in N.J.

The driver suffered minor injuries when the truck flipped in Knowlton Township.

A tractor-trailer hauling trash rolled over about 1:20 a.m. Friday on Interstate 80 West in Knowlton Township, New Jersey State Police report.

Driver Mario Vanegas, 31, of Hempstead, New York, suffered minor injuries in the wreck near mile marker 5.5, Sgt. Jeffrey Flynn said.

The truck is owned by Newland Transport Inc. of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, Flynn said.

Trash was dumped onto the right shoulder of the highway and the right lane was closed, police said. The truck was righted and the cleanup underway when police left at 4:50 a.m., Flynn said.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation was handling the cleanup and as of 10:45 a.m., the right lane remained closed, according to 511nj.org. The lane reopened just after noon, the DOT said.

No citations have been filed and the crash remains under investigation, Flynn said.
